Now I get it!
Hi Yoshiokas! Karen here; I finally have figured out how to manage and protect you as blog authors. If you received this blog by email, then you are an "author". You may comment on any posting, post anything yourself, or edit any of your own posts. If you noticed that I missed anyone, please let me know at karenmlittle@earthlink.net. Thanks!
I sure wish I'd figured this out pre-Leavenworth, but maybe it can be used for the next reunion instead of emails. Or simply to have a Yoshioka "spot" to enjoy. (Hint Hint -- baby Madeleine pictures and Caleb pictures, Lauren-Kelly pictures!)
You can also post pictures here, and grab anyone else's too. You do that by clicking "New Post", writing your post and then adding pictures or videos by clicking on the toolbar above (the picture icon) -- before you click the orange button called "Publish Post" down below (scroll down) your posting.
To post slideshows, you will need to go to the "Layout" tab above, and click "Add Gadget", then scroll down to "Add Slideshow", then browse through your files and double click the file you want to add as a slideshow. You can also "Add Picture" under Gadgets too, as I did. But it's easier to add a posting and insert a picture by clicking on the picture icon on the above toolbar.
Under "Layout" you can also post links, YouTubes links, and many more things too.
Have Fun --
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year 2010! See most of you on January 1st at Blaine.
Love, Karen

July 13, 2009 Update
Update 4 (6/22/09): Let Karen know (karenmlittle@earthlink.net) if you did not receive the update. It was attached along with the family list with an email.
One correction to the Update 4 is: please delete the paragraph about the Family Loom. We have plenty we are doing, so we can do without this. Karen
Family DVD: Thanks to all for sending great "old" pictures to Jim and Tomi. It's looking great. There will be copies for everyone.
Family Notebook Updates: On the backside of your family page, please write a three-five paragraph narrative about your extended family, ie, the people you married -- Jerry, Margo, Judy, Terri, Roberta, Bev, Stephen, Elena, Janet, Trinh, Joann, etc. etc. For example, on the back of my family's update (Jim Karen Brendan Jamie) I will include a brief narrative about Jim Little's family, the Little/Michon Family. Bring 25 copies to the Reunion.
Adding Attendees! Cancellation rules are strict -- July 24 is the date, but adding people, or rooms is easy. Contact Sleeping Lady directly at 1-800-574-2123 and give them "Yoshioka Reunion No. 5513, then give them your credit card number. They will need to know firm numbers for meals.
If you wish to add people for individual meals, Karen has prices -- spendy, but worth it if some college student who will not be named -- is coming through on his or her way to Pullman...
Golf: Two foursomes have registered with Mike Leonard (kmleonard@comcast.net) and so, if you need to join, please let him know asap. Be sure to let Mike or Dave know if you have prizes to donate. Let Mike know if you want a cart.
T Shirts, three words, family names: Email your T shirt sizes to Tom and Roberta (ryoshioka@yahoo.com). Also, send them three words that relate to your family, and the family names associated with your family.
Miscellaneous stuff: Bring Washington, or Yoshioka themed prizes for game night. We will put them in a basket and give them out until they are gone! If you have particular prizes for the younger kids, please indicate that.
I will send you a tentative schedule by email because I don't know how to attach documents to the blog site. You will be asked to volunteer for stuff, since no one has responded to my last plea.

Things to start/continue doing for August ----
Hi all!
First of all, if you are in the vacinity of a golf course, do pick up some memorbilia for prizes at the tournament. I will pick up Gold Mountain and Trophy Lake.
Secondly, thank you to those of you who have responded by sending pictures of Grandpa and Grandma Yoshioka with our families: Dave, Alice, Jean, and Tomi. Continue to send pictures that include cousins with other cousins and send them to Jim as soon as possible: Mano 13026 207th Ave. SE, Issaquah, WA 98027. There are some really cool pictures coming out of the woodwork. There's a hilarious one where it really looks as if I am goosing Dave.
Congrats to Bev and Steve on the arrival of Caleb Kang Kang Yoshioka! He is absolutely blossoming in the love of his family! His story will definitely be a beautiful addition to the Yoshioka fabric. (so, Bev -- could you create a one-pager for us?)
Update family pages: Compose a new update family page for your individual families. This time please include a brief story of the "other" family that has become part of the Yoshioka fabric. For example: I will include the rich history of Jim's family -- the Little's. Please write about the national origin, culture, customs, values, and history that this family brings to the Yoshiokas. It can be narrative or words and pictures -- whatever design you choose! Be prepared to print copies for eveyone's notebooks.
Adventure reservations: Those of you who are leading adventures -- rafting, biking, theater, volksmarching, golfing, horseback riding -- please begin to solidify those plans and forward them to me for the blog.
Nightly program/activities: Suggestions have been: Families related to the Yoshiokas, Game Night, and Icebreaker/Update Evening. Are there any others before we solidify the program and assign various Seattle families to them?
Enough for now -- take care everyone -- thanks to all, too, for the generous donations in honor of Janice. Pray for her especially between 10and 11pm on May 29th when I will be walking during the luminaria walk.

February 16, 2009:
Hello all! I am compiling household names and birth years, home addresses, and phone numbers that you would like to have included on a general roster. Even if you are not attending, it would be nice to have a complete roster for everyone to have. Please try to forward this to me in the next month. Thanks!
So far, there is plenty in store for fun, reflection, and togetherness in August! Looks like the evenings are shaping up to: a family history/culture sharing night, a game night, and a memory night (seems as if the elders have better memories than the middles!). Days are going to be fun with golf, biking, rafting, hiking/walking, shopping, swimming, maybe theatre, and arts!
Keep the ideas coming --- even brief icebreakers (with volunteer facilitators) are still needed. Photos of family members with Grandpa and Grandma may be sent to Tomi. Begin briefing your "other" families' histories and cultures. There is much to be celebrated.

The Commencement of the Yoshioka Blog
Hello Everyone!
Please bear with me as I try to create the Yoshioka 2009 blog. I am hoping that this will serve as a forum to communicate ideas clearly and especially firm up delegations and decisions. So, while everyone is welcome to pose questions, and give ideas and input, I would like to extend this especially to the Seattle Yoshiokas as we are hosts to our Denver and California families. We had a great time in Colorado Springs and Asilomar, and Leavenworth -- I hope -- will be memorable.
Our second meeting will be like a silent auction during New Years -- that is there will be sign ups for chairpeople and committees, but it will not be the focus of the New Years celebration. There are attendees who are not part of the Reunion, so I don't want to make the Reunion a big deal.
I will set up an area for:

I will set up an area for:
- Ideas (post an idea, then create a sign up sheet, and tape it to the table)
- Commitments to lead or help (sign up on any corresponding event sheet)
- Program vote (look at proposed family programs, and vote your preferences)
- Updated communication (put your mailing addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers on the sheet -- that is what I will use the rest of the year)
- Reservation information
- Pictures, pictures, pictures (if you have a CD with memorable pictures, please bring it and put it in the basket -- I will share these with whoever needs them this year)
If I have forgotten something, or if you have a more efficient idea on how to go about this, please don't hesitate to let me know. We all come from different job cultures, so I know I can always be enriched by "the real world". Lastly, and selfishly, I plan to view the blog only weekly as I don't like to open the home computer much. My email is karenmlittle@earthlink.net or jckmlittle@gmail.com. If your question is urgent, my little@skitsap.wednet.edu is on while I work. My phone is (360) 275-3549 and I am best available between 7pm-9pm on work nights.
Love, Karen
